Is AI Mentioning Your Brand? How I Track ChatGPT & AI Visibility
Checking whether ChatGPT, AI Mode or Perplexity mention your brand one prompt at a time takes all night. Here is how I track AI visibility across LLMs automatically with Mentionable.

Checking a client's Google ranking is easy — Search Console exists. But I also need to know whether AI platforms are mentioning them, and that is a different problem entirely.
So I check. ChatGPT mentions the brand — good. Another prompt, and this time it returns a top ranking and quotes the pricing too — better. Then the thought arrives that ruins the afternoon: there are another fifty prompts a customer might reasonably type. Checking those one at a time is not a workflow, it is an all-nighter.
That is the problem this solves.
Why this needs tracking at all
For a long time "are we visible?" meant one thing: where do we sit in Google's organic results. That question now has several answers running in parallel.
What people used to do
Open Google, search the keyword, find the position. One platform, one answer.
What people do now
Ask ChatGPT. Ask Google's AI Mode. Read the AI Overview. Ask Perplexity or Copilot.
What you can measure easily
Google rankings, through Search Console and any rank tracker.
What you mostly cannot
Whether any of those models recommend you when someone describes their problem.
If a model answers who is the best lash artist near me and never names your client, that is a visibility failure — and nothing in your existing reporting will show it.
The setup, which is genuinely short
I will not stretch this out, because the tool does not ask much of you. Create an account, then:
-
01
Add the website as a project
Paste the client's URL. It scans the site first and pulls what it needs about the business automatically.
-
02
Select the country
One dropdown.
-
03
Say whether you receive customers on site
If yes, add the address — I copied the client's straight across — and set a radius. I used five kilometres.
-
04
Say whether you sell products online
For a service business, no. That is the configuration finished.
-
05
Let it generate the prompts
It analyses the business and writes the prompts itself — things like who is the best lash artist — based on what the site actually offers.
You can add your own prompts alongside the generated ones, and choose a weekly or monthly reporting cadence. For the demo I picked 15 prompts and left the schedule off, because I wanted the result immediately.
Choosing the platforms
Next it asks where to track. You can select several at once — Google AI Mode, AI Overview, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot.
For the demo I selected ChatGPT only, deliberately, to keep the output readable. In real client work you would run across several, because the answer genuinely differs between them — being recommended by ChatGPT does not mean Perplexity has heard of you.
What came back
Then it simply runs. No further input, no babysitting — it works through each prompt on each platform and builds the report.
Thirteen mentions out of fifteen is a genuinely good result, and it tells me something concrete: the AI is recommending my client's website. That is not a ranking report — it is evidence that the work done on the site translated into the models' answers.
The report also includes two things I did not have to ask for:
Top competitors
Which brands the models name alongside — or instead of — yours, across the same prompts.
That is your real AI-search competitive set, which is often not the same as your Google one.
Sources
Which pages and sites the models cited when forming the answer.
This is the actionable part: it shows you where citations are coming from, so you know what to go and earn.
Why the sources matter most
The mention count is the headline, but the sources list is where the work comes from.
If a model consistently cites three industry sites when answering your category's questions, and you are not on any of them, you now know exactly what the gap is. That is a concrete outreach target rather than a vague instruction to "build authority".
Pricing, briefly
Worth knowing before you sign up, since the plans differ mainly in scan volume:
Growth
1,500 scans a month, around 115 prompts.
Pro
3,000 scans a month, around 231 prompts. This is the plan I run.
Agency
5,000 scans a month, around 385 prompts.
I use the Pro plan and it handles my workload comfortably. The honest reason I pay for it is not the report — it is that I no longer sit there typing prompts one at a time to find out something I need to know weekly.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I need to track AI visibility separately from Google rankings?
Because they are different systems producing different answers. A page can rank well organically and never be named when someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity the same question in conversational form. Rank tracking tells you about the results page; AI visibility tells you whether the models recommend you at all.
How do you check if ChatGPT mentions your brand?
You can ask it directly, one prompt at a time, which works but does not scale past a handful of queries. A tool like Mentionable runs a defined set of prompts across the platforms automatically and reports where your brand appeared, so the same check that took an evening takes a few minutes.
Which AI platforms should I track?
Whichever ones your customers use, which usually means more than one. ChatGPT, Google's AI Mode and AI Overview, Perplexity, Copilot, Claude and Gemini all answer differently, and visibility on one does not imply visibility on another. Start with two or three and expand once you see where the gaps are.
What is a good AI visibility score?
There is no universal benchmark yet, so treat your own baseline as the measure. Thirteen mentions out of fifteen prompts is strong, but the number that matters is the direction it moves over time and which specific prompts you are missing from — those gaps are the actual work.
What should I do with the sources report?
Treat it as a target list. The sites a model cites when answering your category's questions are where its understanding comes from. If you are not present on them, that is a concrete, specific outreach goal rather than a general ambition to build authority.
The bottom line
Google visibility and AI visibility are now two separate questions, and only one of them has a dashboard most people already use. Checking prompts by hand works until you realise there are fifty of them. Define the prompts your customers would actually type, run them across the platforms automatically, and read the sources list as carefully as the mention count — because that is the part that tells you what to do next.
