Platform SEO

Platform-specific SEO that works with your CMS constraints instead of pretending they do not exist.

The problem

What this solves

Generic SEO advice breaks on real platforms. Webflow will not let you edit robots directives per page the way you expect. Shopify forces a URL structure you cannot change. Drupal ships with a taxonomy system that generates duplicate content by default. Advice written for a generic website wastes weeks before someone discovers the platform simply does not work that way.

You are probably here because

  • Generic SEO advice keeps failing on your CMS
  • Your platform will not let you do what an audit told you to do
  • SEO fixes disappear whenever the theme updates
  • Your team keeps undoing changes without realising
  • You are being told to replatform and are not sure you should

What's included

Everything this service covers

Scope is fixed and written down before we start, so there is no argument later about what was and was not included.

Platform capability assessment

What your CMS can and cannot do natively, and where a workaround or app is genuinely required rather than assumed.

Template-level optimisation

Fixes applied where one change corrects thousands of URLs, rather than page by page in an editor.

Native schema implementation

Structured data added through the platform’s own mechanisms so it survives theme and plugin updates instead of being wiped by them.

Redirect and canonical management

Handled with the platform’s real capabilities, including the cases where it has none and something else has to carry the load.

Performance tuning

Caching, image handling and third-party script control, tuned to how your specific platform serves pages.

Editor documentation

Written guidance your content team can follow, because most SEO regressions come from well-meaning updates by people who were never told the rules.

Process

How the engagement runs

  1. 01

    Platform assessment

Establish what your CMS can and cannot do natively, and where a workaround or app is genuinely required.

  2. 02

    Template work

Fix issues at template level so one change corrects thousands of URLs at once.

  3. 03

    Structured data

Schema implemented through the platform’s own mechanisms, so it survives theme updates.

  4. 04

    Handover

Written documentation for your editors, because most SEO regressions come from well-meaning content updates.

Outcomes

What success looks like

  • Platform limitations worked around instead of repeatedly rediscovered
  • Template fixes that scale across the entire site instantly
  • An SEO setup that survives theme and plugin updates

Honest fit

Is this the right service for you?

I would rather tell you no now than take a retainer for work that was never going to help.

This is a good fit if

  • You are on Webflow, Shopify, WordPress or Drupal
  • Previous advice broke against a platform limitation
  • Your SEO setup keeps regressing after updates
  • You want to know whether replatforming is justified

This is the wrong service if

  • You want a full custom rebuild — that is a different project
  • Your platform is genuinely obscure with no documentation
  • You expect platform work alone to fix thin content
  • You have no admin access and no route to getting it

Definitions

The terms on this page, explained

Plain definitions of the concepts this service works with — so you can evaluate the work rather than take the vocabulary on trust.

Template-level fix
A change made once in a page template that applies to every page generated from it. The difference between fixing four thousand pages and fixing one.
Headless CMS
A setup where content management and front-end rendering are separate systems. Gives full technical control and moves the rendering risk onto your developers.
Platform constraint
Something your CMS structurally cannot do — a fixed URL pattern, a missing robots control, a collection limit. Worth knowing before an audit recommends it.
Regression
An SEO fix that stops working because something else changed — a theme update, a plugin, an editor removing a block. The reason documentation is part of the deliverable.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which platforms do you specialise in?

Webflow, Shopify, WordPress and Drupal most often, plus modern JavaScript frameworks like Next.js and TanStack Start. This very site is built on TanStack Start and statically prerendered.

Is Webflow bad for SEO?

No, but it has specific constraints — limited per-page robots control, a fixed CMS URL structure and caps on collection items. Handled knowingly, Webflow sites rank very well.

Should I migrate platforms to improve SEO?

Rarely. Migration is a large risk with a real chance of traffic loss. I would need to show that a platform limitation is genuinely capping your growth before recommending it — and then I would run the migration properly.

Do you need developer access?

It speeds things up considerably. Where access is not possible, I provide implementation instructions specific to your platform and review the work afterwards.
