SERP Snippet Preview

Google truncates titles and descriptions by pixel width, not character count — which is why a title that “fit” still ends in an ellipsis. This tool measures the real rendered width as you type and shows you the desktop and mobile snippet exactly as searchers will see it.

How to use it

  1. 1Type your page title, URL and meta description into the fields.
  2. 2Watch the live preview and the pixel-width meters update as you type.
  3. 3Keep the title under roughly 580px and the description under roughly 920px so neither gets cut off.
  4. 4Adjust wording until the most important terms sit safely inside the visible range on both desktop and mobile.

Why it matters

Your title and description are the ad you never paid for — they decide whether a ranking actually earns the click. Writing them blind to how Google truncates them means burying your call to action past the ellipsis. Previewing against real pixel widths is the cheapest click-through win on the page.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Google measure titles in pixels, not characters?
Because characters are not equal widths — a “W” takes far more space than an “i”. Google renders titles in a specific font and cuts them at a pixel boundary, so two titles with the same character count can truncate differently. Measuring pixels is the only accurate way to preview.
What are the safe limits for title and description?
As a working guide, keep titles under about 580 pixels (roughly 60 characters) and meta descriptions under about 920 pixels (roughly 155–160 characters) on desktop. Mobile shows less, so front-load the important words either way.
Does Google always use my title and description?
Not always — Google may rewrite either if it thinks something else better matches the query. But a clear, well-scoped title and description are used the large majority of the time, and writing them well is still the best signal you can give.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The preview and all measurement happen in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
